During the Bureau of Customs’ (BOC) 122nd Founding Anniversary, the Export Development Council (EDC) showcased its commitment to collaboration as Deputy Executive Director Elsa De La Paz – Valenzuela represented the EDC within the Customs Industry Consultative and Advisory Council (CICAC).

The CICAC, established under Customs Memorandum Circular (CMC) 02-2024, serves as a consultative body bridging the gap between the BOC and the business-industrial sector. It aims to address pertinent customs and industry-related issues, promote mutual understanding, and strengthen the relationship between the BOC and industry partners.

Split into the Central CICAC, chaired by the BOC Commissioner, and the District CICAC, chaired by respective District Collectors, the council plays a pivotal role in shaping policies and strategies to enhance trade facilitation and combat smuggling.

Under the theme “Customs Engaging Traditional and New Partners with Purpose,” Commissioner Rubio unveiled the BOC’s five-point priority program:

1. Digitalize Customs Processes
2. Hit and Surpass Collection Targets
3. Simplify Procedures and Facilitate Secured Trade
4. Curb Smuggling in All Forms
5. Uplift Employee Welfare and Development

The EDC reaffirmed its staunch support for the BOC’s initiatives, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving these objectives. Through continuous networking and dialogue, the EDC aims to streamline processes, address challenges, and create a conducive environment for economic growth within the export industry.
