The Tatak Pinoy (TP), also known as the Proudly Filipino Act (RA 11981), was signed into law by President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. (PBBM) on 26 February 2024. The act mandates the formulation, funding implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of a comprehensive multi-year Tatak Pinoy (Proudly Filipino) strategy establishing a Tatak Pinoy Council (TPC).
In his speech, PBBM emphasized that the TP is an exercise to patronize local products and carry out the “Made in the Philippines” trademark. The TP Act, led by Senator Sonny Angara, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, also aims to have Genuine Local Preference, Access to Financing for Domestic Enterprises, Market Access Facilitation, Green Lanes, Efficient Implementation of VAT refunds, and a Tatak Pinoy Council, that will serve as the policy and advisor of the President.
The TP Act is also deemed to help micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) recover from losses during the pandemic if Filipinos continue supporting locally produced goods and commodities. Additionally, this creates more jobs, which will help reduce the country’s unemployment rate. JVL
