PEDP 2023-2028: Empowering Mindanao’s exporters with resources and success stories

Region XI – Cagayan de Oro City

The Philippine Export Development Plan (PEDP) 2023-2028: Cascading Government Programs and Services successfully conducted its second Mindanao leg on October 2, 2024, at the Mallberry Suites Business Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City. The event gathered exporters, aspiring exporters, MSMEs, LGUs, academic institutions, and DTI representatives from Region XI to explore government programs that strengthen the export sector.

The program began with a Welcome Message by DTI-Region 10 OIC Regional Director Ruel B. Paclipan and an Opening Message from Hon. George S. Goking, City Councilor of Cagayan de Oro.

Highlights from the Morning Sessions:

  • DTI-EMB Programs and Trends: Exporters gained insights into the latest market opportunities.
  • PHILEXPORT Services: Explained the benefits of membership for exporters.
  • 1Export: Showcased programs designed to help MSMEs enter global markets.
  • Small Business Corporation (SB Corp.): Presented financing solutions for exporters.


Afternoon Focus:
Regulatory agencies, including the FDA, IPOPHL, and DOST, provided overviews of their programs and services tailored to support exporters. A particularly inspiring moment was the testimony of Ms. Kim Subido, Director of Sabroso Chocolate Manufacturing. She shared her journey of transforming their business into a successful export venture, highlighting challenges, lessons, and the role of government support in achieving international recognition.

Financial institutions such as Land Bank and DBP presented their financial services to exporters. Additionally, a vibrant Export Product Exhibit showcased quality products from local MSMEs, including Puyo Handicrafts, Sabroso Chocolate, The Stoneware Pottery, and TWWA Enterprise.

The event concluded with Closing Remarks by PHILEXPORT Region 10 Membership Representative Jingle V. Espedido, who underscored the importance of resilience and leveraging insights to address business challenges.

Region XII – General Santos City

The PEDP cascading continued in General Santos City on October 4, 2024, at the Greenleaf Hotel, with 120 participants from the SOCCSKSARGEN region, including exporters, MSMEs, and other stakeholders.

The program opened with remarks by DTI General Santos City Division Chief Eddie De Asis. Deputy Executive Director Elsa Valenzuela of the Export Development Council (EDC) highlighted the EDC’s milestones and ongoing advocacy under the PEDP 2023-2028.

  • DTI-EMB Programs: Shared market trends and opportunities, particularly for food products in international markets.
  • Trade Regulatory Agencies: Presentations from BFAR, DA-FDC, IPOPHL, PCA, and FDA offered solutions to export-related challenges.
  • Digital Innovations: Introduced the PHX Source Platform to help exporters expand their global reach.

The event also featured insights from the General Santos LGU’s City Economic Management and Cooperative Development Office (CEMCDO), emphasizing local government support for export initiatives.

The session concluded with PHILEXPORT Region 12 President Cecile Loquias, who stressed the need for exporters to embrace continuous learning and collaboration.

Both events reaffirmed the government’s dedication to empowering exporters by equipping them with tools, resources, and success stories like Sabroso Chocolate’s to inspire resilience and growth. Through these cascading sessions, exporters are better prepared to innovate, overcome challenges, and compete on the global stage.
