With the theme “Sustainability: Shaping the Future of Philippine Exports,” this year’s NEW highlights the important role of sustainable practices in driving long-term competitiveness and growth in Philippine exports. 

NEW 2024 will feature a variety of thematic sessions, forums, exhibitions showcasing export products, and tools from Philippine exporters, and enablers. The week culminates with the National Export Congress (NEC), a platform for collaboration and strategy-building in line with the Philippine Export Development Plan 2023-2028.

PEDP 2023-2028: Empowering Mindanao’s exporters with resources and success stories

Region XI – Cagayan de Oro City

The Philippine Export Development Plan (PEDP) 2023-2028: Cascading Government Programs and Services successfully conducted its second Mindanao leg on October 2, 2024, at the Mallberry Suites Business Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City. The event gathered exporters, aspiring exporters, MSMEs, LGUs, academic institutions, and DTI representatives from Region XI to explore government programs that strengthen the export sector.

The program began with a Welcome Message by DTI-Region 10 OIC Regional Director Ruel B. Paclipan and an Opening Message from Hon. George S. Goking, City Councilor of Cagayan de Oro.

Design sustainability takes center stage at PHILEXPORT 4th quarter GMM

The 4th Quarter General Membership Meeting of the Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc., held last 8th of October 2024, focused on “Design Mindfulness Towards Sustainability and Innovation.” According to the President’s Report delivered by Dr. Sergio R. Ortiz-Luis Jr., Philippine exports showed optimistic growth in recent months, with a notable increase in July 2024 exports, while imports remain steady. Moreover, there was a 9.4% jump from June USD5.54 billion. With the Philippines benefiting from strong trade growth, National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) estimates that the Philippines could achieve Upper Middle Income Country (UMIC) status by 2025. While the Philippine Export Development Plan may fall short of its ambitious $143.4 billion target, projections indicate that export figures could still reach $107 billion—an impressive milestone amid global economic challenges.

The East Java Multipurpose Terminal (EJMT), operated by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), officially opened on 02 October 2024 in Lamongan, Indonesia. This strategic development could benefit Philippine exporters by enhancing trade routes between the Philippines, Indonesia, and neighboring regions.

PEDP 2023-2028: Key Support for Exporters kicks off in Cebu

The Philippine Export Development Plan (PEDP) 2023-2028 kicked off its regional rollout with an information session in Cebu City on August 20, 2024, at Cebu Grand Hotel.  This session (held in cooperation with DTI Region 7 and Philexport Cebu Chapter) is part of a strategic effort to equip exporters and aspiring exporters with the tools and support needed to thrive in the global market.

Targeting the first of seven key exporting regions, the session covered Region VII (Cebu City) and Region VI-A (Iloilo City, via Zoom). Nearly 150 participants, including exporters, industry leaders, and government representatives, attended the event. It provided a crucial platform for disseminating government programs and services that are directly aligned with the needs of the export sector.

DTI Unveils ‘PHX Source’ to Elevate Philippine Exporters’ Global Reach

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), through its Industry Development and Investment Promotions Group (IPG) and in collaboration with QSweep Tech Services, has launched PHX Source, a digital platform designed to boost the global visibility of Philippine exporters.

PHX Source serves as a comprehensive B2B directory, offering free basic listings for exporters to showcase their products and services. Upgraded features include premium microsites, videography, product photography, social media management, and digital advertising, all aimed at enhancing market reach. The platform also provides real-time analytics to help businesses track engagement and refine their strategies.

BOC and PHILEXPORT Strengthen Partnership to Enhance Trade Facilitation

At the 6th Customs Industry Consultative and Advisory Council (CICAC) meeting, held at Rizal Park Hotel, Kalaw Avenue, representatives from the Bureau of Customs (BOC), PHILEXPORT, and other key stakeholders gathered to address ongoing challenges in trade facilitation. The discussions focused on significant trade concerns raised in previous meetings, including the ATA Carnet system under Customs Memorandum Order (CMO) 8-2024, the draft CMO on Customs Administrative Order (CAO) No. 02-2024 related to dues, fees, and charges, and a proposal to extend the validity of Account Management Office (AMO) accreditation/renewal for compliant companies by one year.

PRISM: ARTA’s E-Learning System for Enhanced Regulatory Practices

The Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) has launched the Policy Reform, Innovation, and Streamlining Management (PRISM) system, an e-learning platform aimed at modernizing its capacity-building initiatives to better serve stakeholders and government partners.

PRISM offers a variety of features, including pre-recorded videos, interactive slides, quizzes, worksheets, assessments, and live chat functionality. Currently, it includes two courses: the Executive Briefing on Regulatory Management System (RMS) & RIA and the Introductory Course on Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA).

Basilio—has authored a comprehensive two-volume book titled Living Well Under the Shade of the New Normal. The book explores the enduring effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and outlines strategies for adapting to the “new normal.” The book draws on the collective expertise of socio-economic researchers, providing a multidisciplinary analysis of the country’s journey through the pandemic, addressing both pandemic-related challenges and new issues that have emerged.
