President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. (PBBM) vetoed bills institutionalizing the Philippine Transportation Safety Board (PTSB).
The President dismissed the House Bill No. 9030 and Senate Bill No. 1077 – the bills creating PTSB – as it was deemed to duplicate the functions of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) as well as the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
The PTSB is planned to be an independent and a non-regulatory agency under the Office of the President that will ensure the maintenance of a safe, viable, efficient, and dependable transportation system in the country; improve transportation safety measures in order to prevent accidents, and ensure the implementation of transportation safety standards.
The Export Development Council’s Networking Committee on Transport and Logistics (EDC-NCTL) remains committed to its advocacy on the institutionalization of the PTSB as it will elevate the status of the Philippines as a safe destination for its citizens and visitors who can contribute to expanding the tourism and economic opportunities of the communities.KJDA
