The Royal Cargo, Inc. (RCI) will commence its maiden voyage to Los Angeles by mid-September this year. Its launch will be made through one of the vessels of Iris Logistics Inc. (Iris Paoay), a Philippine shipping company 80% owned by RCI. Iris Paoay is a general container cargo vessel with 1100 TEUs capacity.
The maiden voyage will be a direct, non-stop service between the Philippines (MNL-CEB-DVO) and the US (LA).
Cebu and Davao-based exporters will save on domestic transshipment costs on sending their export cargoes to Manila as RCI will directly fetch their exports. With this sailing, more savings on time and costs since the service is direct and non-stop, the cost of transshipping to other port hubs is eliminated.
The port of discharge would be in the Long Beach Port, Los Angeles. RCI is also considering to use the Port of Hueneme as an alternative to avoid congestion at the main ports. They can also provide transport logistics services onto the final destination of export cargo within the US from the port of discharge.
Mr. Michael Raeuber, CEO of Royal Cargo, Inc., is an advocate against excessive and unnecessary charges imposed by international shipping lines. Thus, he assures that RCI will only use prevailing market rates with no unnecessary local charges imposed.
EDC, together with PHILEXPORT, PCCI, and SCMAP, hailed this development as an initial concrete solution to the current shipping problem of our exporters/importers.
